What are SUPARTZ Injections?
SUPARTZ injections treat knee osteoarthritis. They do this by providing temporary replacement for diseased synovial fluid in your knee, which is an underlying cause of your pain. Unlike oral medications or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that affect all parts of your body, SUPARTZ specifically targets the osteoarthritis in your knee.
How do SUPARTZ Injections Work?
When you have knee pain from osteoarthritis, the hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid in your knee joint becomes diluted and breaks down. This reduces its natural properties. This happens because of the increased inflammatory processes that can degrade the cartilage in your knee. This inflammation causes your pain receptors to begin firing even during normal movement. The pain tends to cause you to limit your movement, which in turn leads to further deterioration of joint structures and synovial fluid quality. Movement is very important for normal synovial homeostasis. This is a vicious cycle and osteoarthritis sufferers find their symptoms become progressively worse and quality of life is compromised.
Are You a Candidate for SUPARTZ Injections?
It’s a very easy and quick process:
Our doctor will inject SUPARTZ therapy directly into your knee joint right in the office.
We may use a local anesthetic to numb your knee
We will remove the fluid that is currently in your knee joint with a process called arthrocentesis
And we will inject SUPARTZ into the knee joint space
We may ask you to avoid strenuous activities for a couple of days following the injection and most patients experience little or no discomfort during the procedure.
Please contact us via email or call Sheitelman Physical Medicine at 623-214-7600 for more information to find out if you are a candidate for the SUPARTZ injection procedure.
